UR Chicago Podcast, July 2009

This month's podcast was long overdue, partly due the fact to the fact I've been busy planning a couple of sure-to-be-super-fun Lollapalooza pre-parties (see here and here), but also because I just wasn't too excited about the music arriving in my inbox. The idea behind this podcast is to sift through all of the new music sent out by publicists big and small (and individual bands/artists, of course), and put together an hour/hour and a half-long set of solid songs that you can pop in your iPod/iPhone/iTunes, etc.,have an enjoyable experience and maybe find a couple of new bands to like. Each podcast has embedded "chapters" so you can skip from song to song and each tune will have album artwork and a link to that bands' MySpace page. So be sure to use that feature if you hear something you like!
As it turns out, this podcast ended up being one of my favorites so far with quite a few stand out songs. I led things off with "Season Of Love" a solid debut track from great new band from Chicago called The Yearbooks. Of course I had to toss new Chicago-based remix collective Only Children's reworking of Hey Champ's "Cold Dust Girl" and "First World Problems" from local act Post Honeymoon. Have to give the home town some love!
There's also new music from hipster hop queen Amanda Blank, French Kiss Records' new signing Sean Bones, Noise Problem artist Neon Indian, West Coast-based, girl-fronted psych-rockers Warpaint, even a track off of Yim Yames (Jim James of My Morning Jacket)'s new tribute EP to George Harrison, plus TONS more. Give it a listen!
