Bobby Long: Not Just For Twihards

In case you hadn’t heard, there’s this movie series about vampires and abstinence that’s become insanely popular in the last few years. If you move past the OMG TEAM CULLEN factor and take a look at the music used in the films, you’d find an incredibly respectable roster of artists ranging from Muse to Iron & Wine to Lykke Li. Tucked behind these heavy hitters, you’ll find new-comer Bobby Long’s name in the songwriting credits for “Let Me Sign.” The track appeared as a digital bonus song on the Twilight soundtrack and was performed by the infamous Robert Pattinson.

Bobby Long has a soulful voice well beyond his years and hangs out in the bluesy folk singer-songwriter genre. His self-recorded EP Dirty Pond Songs contains ten tracks of raw husky vocals, an acoustic guitar and a few cameos by a harmonica. There’s something hauntingly infectious about Long’s honest lyrics and simple strumming. A few of the tracks are available on iTunes, but I’d suggest coming out to Double Door next week and catching his live show.
